What is it?
Do you want to learn about Deaf culture and New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL)?
Does your organisation or team want to be more inclusive of Deaf people?
Our training courses provide an insight into the Deaf World. Participants gain knowledge and confidence in how to successfully include and communicate with Deaf people.
Organisations and businesses benefit from workplace diversity and from ensuring their accessibility. You may have Deaf employees now or in future, and learning practical ways to include Deaf people can have a positive impact on your organisation or business.
Deaf Awareness Courses include:
- An overview of the Deaf community
- Deaf culture and history
- Effective communication strategies
- An introduction to New Zealand Sign Language
- Making information accessible
- Deaf-friendly environments
- How to work with NZSL interpreters
Courses are delivered by Deaf tutors using an interactive delivery style. iSign interpreters are included to facilitate effective communication.
Deaf Aotearoa’s NZSL courses are designed to teach people in your organisation basic NZSL.
Our courses are different to generic community NZSL classes as participants learn NZSL vocabulary and phrases specific to your organisation, to facilitate communication with Deaf customers and colleagues.
Deaf Aotearoa’s NZSL courses are an ideal extension to a Deaf Awareness course.
