What we want to know
We’re reviewing the disposal rules — the rules about how long care records should be kept and what should happen to them afterwards — for care records. As part of this work we want to better understand the needs and wants of people who have been in care.
We want to hear from you about the following questions.
- What types of information should be kept? How long should it be kept, and what should happen to it afterwards?
- Are there some types of information that should not be kept after a certain length of time? What are they, and for how long should they be kept? How should we manage the risk of not keeping them?
Think about both:
- the personal information about people who have been or are in care
- the information about the care organisations.

Ways to provide feedback
There are a few ways you can share your feedback with us, including anonymously. The last date for feedback is 15 February 2025.
