You can look after yourself during the hot summer days with these simple tips:
Wear a sun hat
Wear sunglasses
Make sure you put on sunblock
Find protection from the sun by going under shade such as an umbrella, tent, or under a tree
If you go swimming, make sure you reapply the sunblock again and again to keep your protection.
It is recommended that you use sunblock with an SPF rating above 30SPF to give you better protection against harmful UV light.
Swim between the flags
When you go swimming at the beach, it is safest to swim between the flags. These flags are red and yellow.
If you get caught in a rip, do not panic, keep yourself calm. Try to float on the water to a safe place, and raise your hand so that a lifeguard can see that you need assistance.
Travel safely
Lots of people love to travel during the summer holidays. Remember that New Zealand roads are quite narrow and winding.
You do not need to arrive at your destination in a hurry, so please take your time and follow the posted speed limits.
Do not drink and drive.
If you are feeling tired, pull over and have a break, or switch drivers.
