Why is NZSL Essential to you?

This year's NZSL Week theme is NZSL is Essential. There are many reasons why NZSL would be essential to you, so this is your opportunity to film yourself telling us why NZSL is essential to you.

Your video clip can be a short explanation, or you could include a little story. This is entirely up to you. We would like to ask you to share your video clip on social media and use the following hashtag:

#NZSLisESSENTIAL

This will allow people to search for that hashtag and find everyone's public submission.

We are excited to see what everyone has to say about NZSL being Essential to them.

NZSL Week Pepeha Challenge

We are REALLY excited to launch a brand-new challenge for NZSL Week!!! ANYONE can be involved! Deaf or hearing, and of all ages – we invite ALL of you to give it a go! 

So, what is it!? A NZSL Sign Singing challenge! Emmie Bensley, our NZSL Hero for 2022, has performed Six60‘s Pepeha song. 

To participate in the challenge, all you have to do is give this one verse a go! 

If you’re feeling rather ambitious, you’re welcome to give the full song a try ;) Otherwise, enjoy Emmie’s full performance of Pepeha by Six60 below!

We would love to see how you go, film yourself and share by tagging Deaf Aotearoa and use the hashtag #NZSLPepeha during NZSL Week – 9th to 15th May 2022!

We have giveaways from Six60 – Pepeha booklets! First in, first serve when you share your video! Come and give it a go!

NZSL Week Calendar Events

Did you know the NZSL Week website has an Events calendar, with a collection of NZSL Week events happening throughout New Zealand. This is a community calendar where you will be able to add your own events.

There is a form for you to fill in all the information about your event, and this will be sent to our NZSL Week Team to check before being approved and published on the website.

All events will need to checked by our team first before being published, so do not expect to see your recently submitted event published on the website immediately. Our team is busy at this time of the year so we ask for your patience.

We are excited to see all the community event submissions. It's an easy process.
