Executive Board update about President hand-over
The Deaf Aotearoa Executive Board recently had a Board Meeting and there are some changes to the Executive Board. Oliver Ferguson has been the Deaf Aotearoa President for the past 5 years and a member of the Executive Board for 10 years, but he has decided that it is time to step down and pass on the Presidency to another person. We wish to congratulate Joanne Klaver who is now the new President of Deaf Aotearoa.
Also because of some recent changes to the Deaf Aotearoa Constitution, the Executive Board also needed a Chairperson. The Chairperson for the Executive Board is Anthony Sammons.
We wish Oliver Ferguson well, and thank him for his years of service for Deaf Aotearoa and the New Zealand Deaf Community.
Kia ora. I’m Victoria Manning, Deaf Aotearoa’s General Manager-Strategy. I’d like to let you know I have been offered a new job and so am resigning from Deaf Aotearoa. I’ve worked at Deaf Aotearoa for 6 years now and looking back it’s been a fantastic experience and I feel privileged to have worked here. All Deaf Aotearoa staff are so committed, passionate and work hard to improve life and equality for the Deaf community and Deaf people. Deaf Aotearoa’s team of staff work well together and I’m privileged and proud to have been a part of that team over the last 6 years. I wish to give special acknowledgement and thanks to Deaf Aotearoa’s Chief Executive, Lachlan Keating, for his steadfast and constant support to me in my time here. Deaf Aotearoa has become like family for me and it’s going to be really hard for me to leave. However, after 6 great years at Deaf Aotearoa, I’m feeling ready for my next challenge to grow and learn further.
My new position is Policy Manager in the Ministry of Justice’s Joint Venture Business Unit for the Elimination of Family Violence and Sexual Violence. I’ll be at Deaf Aotearoa until the end of April and move to my new job from May. I’d like to encourage the Deaf community to continue to support Deaf Aotearoa, we are the organization that works to enable the Deaf community and achieve equal outcomes for Deaf people. With your support Deaf Aotearoa will continue to be strong and the Deaf community and Deaf people benefit.
Deaf Aotearoa has a new e-newsletter called Pepe Pānui. This is a Māori name which translates to Butterfly Announcement. The old Community Weekly Newsletter has been discontinued as it is time for change.
The new Pepe Pānui newsletter will only be distributed when there is news to be shared. Most of the news shared will be from Deaf Aotearoa, and about about Deaf Aotearoa services.
