Deaf Aotearoa is looking for a Pathway Assessor/Facilitator to join the Adults & Seniors team. The Adults & Seniors service is a nationwide service that understands and responds to Deaf and hard-of-hearing people’s needs. The service offers needs assessments and coordination, 1:1 support, applications for hearing assistive equipment, employment support, and Disability Information Advisory Service (DIAS).

About the role
- Engage with the local Deaf community and provide support/information
- Complete needs assessments with service users
- 1:1 support with service users
- Develop Service Plans with service users which identify personal goals, strengths and support systems
- Carry an active caseload as directed by the Team Leader, and ensure all new referrals are managed through the correct process
- Deliver services with due care to the fundamental principles of being person-centred; care and protection; privacy; empowerment and non-dependence
- Supporting Service Users with gaining employment and post-employment support
- Provision of Hearing Assistive Technology
- Organising Adult and Community Education (ACE) courses for the Deaf community
- Networking with other service providers
- Keep the Deaf community up to date through the distribution of written/video updates
- Work as an effective team member, ensuring that Deaf & hearing people who engage with Deaf Aotearoa receive a positive experience
- Promote the work and interests of Deaf Aotearoa
Skills and experience
- Engaging and networking with the Deaf community and other external services/organisations
- Excellent engagement, communication and networking skills/Relationship building skills
- Needs assessment experience or skills (we can provide training if needed)
- Front line service experience or skills
- Be able to work under pressure and work with people in times of crisis
- Ongoing commitment to Deaf Aotearoa’s Vision and Mission
- Have New Zealand Sign Language skills
- Preferred experience in working with the Deaf Community
- Experience in the not-for-profit/community sector
- Experience in using variety of IT systems and applications, proficient in using Microsoft Office independently
- Commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi principles and Pacific values
- Able to legally drive in New Zealand and have access to a reliable vehicle for use to visit service users or attend meetings/events
