Mental Health Resilience Talk
9th October - 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm
Our world is changing and having an impact on many. Lance will speak about those effects and how to cope from what the latest research and neuroscience reveals. He will cover topics on; why it is that many people are feeling overwhelmed, changing emotions, having unwanted thoughts & feelings, and how to overcome them. Lance will show us how to motivate and energise ourselves across the day, how to switch off at the end of a busy day, and how to have a more restful sleep. Shane will share his experiences of how resilience strategies can work in practice, particularly as they relate to performance, pressure environments, personal values and team culture. There will time for Q & A at the end, where Shane and Lance hope to start a community conversation about resilient mental health.
Following a career in construction, Lance Burdett spent 22 years in the police, 13 as a crisis negotiator. He trained in New Zealand, Australia, England, and the United States with the elite units of police, prisons, emergency services, the military, and the FBI. Lance has an MA (Terrorism, Safety & Security), a Diploma in Policing, a Diploma in Business Studies, and completing a Diploma in Positive Psychology & Wellbeing. Lance is a published author of the bestselling books – Behind The Tape and Dark Side of the Brain – and is writing a third on managing anxiety. He makes regular media appearances.
Shane is a seasoned leader in both the education and sports realms, currently excelling as the Team Manager for the triumphant Crusaders Rugby Team for the past seven seasons. Prior to his sporting career, he served as a Primary School teacher and school leader across a 25 year timespan. The correlations between both of these environments, especially the relativity of high performance expectations of individuals, sub-cohorts, or wider environments, have led to him enjoying opportunities to share this narrative within wider audiences. His experiences within elements such as pressure, care, chaos, order, and many other factors are as fascinating as they are entertaining.
