Deaf Aotearoa is looking for two New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) – English Translators to join our growing Translation team. The purpose of the Translation team is to ensure that members of the Deaf Community have access to information in NZSL.

Job tasks and responsibilities
- Translate documents to NZSL
- Present high-quality translations
- Create NZSL translation videos
- Do quality checks on NZSL translation videos
- Work as a team to ensure translation work meet requirements and is delivered on time
- Maintain accurate records of all work undertaken
- Promote the work and interests of Deaf Aotearoa
- Maintain the integrity and standard of Deaf Aotearoa brands
- Be an effective team member and undertake professional development
- Perform to work standards and legal requirements in line with Deaf Aotearoa policies and guidelines
Skills and experience
- Ongoing commitment to Deaf Aotearoa’s Vision and Mission
- Deaf Studies certificate, or working towards the Certificate or equivalent relevant qualification
- Expert knowledge of New Zealand Sign Language
- Strong communication skills
- Strong English Literacy
- Understanding of the translation process
- Experience with video editing would be an advantage
- Extensive Relationship building and management skills
- Experience working in the Deaf community
- High level of attention to detail
- Understanding of the need to be responsible for the health & safety of self and others
- Experience/knowledge of the not-for-profit and/or disability sector
- Experience in using a variety of IT systems and applications, proficient in using Microsoft Office
- Commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi principles
- Experience/knowledge of Tikanga Māori
