NOTICE OF SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING (SGM)

Deaf Aotearoa New Zealand Incorporated (DANZ) will hold a Special General Meeting virtually, by Zoom, on Saturday March 7th 2026 at 10:00am to 2:00pm.

Members wishing to attend will need to register by emailing tyler.johnston@deaf.org.nz – members who have registered will be sent the Zoom link prior to the SGM.

Why online?

This means everyone can access, be involved, contribute equally.

Hybrid (face to face & online) is harder to make fair for all.

At AGM – people online couldn’t see what was happening in room, and people in room couldn’t see what was happening online and in Zoom chat.

Business of the SGM

The business of the SGM will be limited to:

1. Consideration of the Executive Board’s remits submitted to the 2025 Annual General Meeting

2. Consideration of the Executive Board’s governance motion submitted to the 2025 Annual General Meeting

3. Consideration of the Governor General Dame Cindy Kiro as a Patron of DANZ
This is being discussed because members have expressed that the discussion and voting on this topic at the 2025 Annual General Meeting was confusing.

4. Consideration of the four (4) motions submitted by members to the 2025 Annual General Meeting

Zoom Voting

Voting at the SGM will be conducted anonymously through Zoom.

Proxy Form

Proxy voting will be allowed at the SGM – more information will be shared about this early in 2026.

DANZ Constitution

DANZ has now re-registered under the Incorporated Societies Act 2022, with the Constitution approved by members at the 2025 Annual General Meeting.  The Constitution is the document presented by the Executive Board and approved by members, plus the wording from the member engagement remit approved by members (which has been added as new clause 5.5.8).

That means DANZ is now governed by the new Act, and the new Constitution applies.

A copy of the new Constitution can be found on the DANZ website.

Any remits passed at the SGM will amend the new Constitution. Any approved changes will take effect once they are registered with and accepted by the Registrar of Incorporated Societies.
