Kia ora DANZ Members
As the AGM and election process begins, we want to remind all DANZ members to be careful and understand what they are signing before agreeing to any remits, nomination forms, proxy forms, or petitions.
We are aware of an email that has been sent to some DANZ members which includes a proposed remit – the Executive Board (EB) wants to make it clear that the email did not come from DANZ, and the email addresses that the emails were sent to did not come from the DANZ membership database. There has been no breach of DANZ membership database.
If you received the proposed remit, or if you receive an EB nomination form, proxy form, or petition, the EB suggests that Members make sure they fully understand what they are signing before they sign the document.
- Only sign or put your name on documents (remits, nomination forms, proxy forms, or petitions) if you fully understand them. If you don’t understand something, don’t sign it.
- If you’ve already signed or put your name on something without fully understanding it, contact the person who asked you to sign or put your name on it and ask them to remove your name and signature.
- If you’re asking others to sign or put their name on something they don’t understand, please stop. Members need to be respected and allowed to make their own decisions.
We welcome remits that will strengthen and improve the DANZ Constitution, in line with the new Incorporated Societies Act.
We also welcome nominations from DANZ Members who want to join the Executive Board and collaborate with current members and support the CEO to build a stronger Deaf Aotearoa and Deaf community.
We are holding two meetings on Zoom to talk about the DANZ constitution and proposed changes next week on Tuesday 9th and Thursday 11th. Information about these meetings was sent to Members on Monday 1st September. If you haven’t received the email about these meetings, please check if you updated your email address or contact tyler.johnston@deaf.org.nz to make sure you are a member of DANZ.
