About the business

Deaf Aotearoa is looking for a General Manager – Adults & Seniors. This is a new and exciting role that will be responsible for managing and developing Deaf Aotearoa’s services to adults and seniors through contemporary and professional best practice standards in line with our strategic direction.

Job tasks and responsibilities

  • Manage and develop the provision of Deaf Aotearoa’s services for adults and seniors with due regard to Deaf cultural values and Deaf community goals and aspirations
  • Engage with, and develop key national and regional stakeholders to ensure that services are responsive to the needs of the Deaf community
  • Implement and monitor business strategies, policies and processes, plans and technology systems to maintain and improve quality
  • Fiscal management, tender applications, contract compliance and effective reporting
  • Work as an effective member of the leadership team whilst building a culture of participatory leadership and collaboration within the organisation
  • Promote the work and interests of Deaf Aotearoa

Skills and experience

  • Ongoing commitment to Deaf Aotearoa’s Vision and Mission
  • Experience working in the Deaf community
  • Functional knowledge of New Zealand Sign Language appropriate to the role or fluency in Auslan, BSL, ASL or International Sign
  • Experience in managing a broad range of services across a wide geographical area
  • Strong operational and people management experience
  • Experience in change management and business development
  • Experience/knowledge of the not-for-profit and/or disability sector
  • Tertiary qualification or significant experience in management or a role related discipline
  • Leadership and experience in developing Deaf people
  • Research, presentation and report writing skills
  • Analytical skills and the ability to evaluate information
  • Extensive relationship building and management skills
  • Experience in using a variety of IT systems and applications (Microsoft Office)
  • Commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi principles
  • Experience/knowledge of Tikanga Māori
