Deaf Aotearoa is looking for a Facilitator to join the Hauora team. The Hauora service is a nationwide service that understands and responds to Deaf and hard-of-hearing people’s needs. The Hauora service offers needs assessments and coordination, applications for assistive equipment, and information and advice.
About the role
- Engage with the local Deaf community, and provide support/information.
- Develop Service Plans with service users which identify personal goals, strengths and support systems
- Networking with other service providers
- Provision of Hearing Assistive Technology
- Organizing ACE courses for the community
- Supporting service users with gaining employment
- Keep the Deaf community up to date through the distribution of written/video updates
- Deliver services with due care to the fundamental principles of being person-centred; care and protection; privacy; empowerment and non-dependence.
- Carry an active caseload as directed by the Team Leader, and ensure all new referrals are managed through the correct process.
- Work as an effective member of the front-line service provision team, ensuring that Deaf & hearing people who visit Deaf Aotearoa receive a positive service experience.
- Promote the work and interests of Deaf Aotearoa.
Skills and experience
- Engaging and networking with the Deaf community and other external services/organisations
- Relationship building skills
- Ongoing commitment to Deaf Aotearoa’s Vision and Mission
- Bilingual – New Zealand Sign Language/English
- Preferred experience in working with the Deaf Community
- Experience in the not-for-profit/community sector
- Experience in using a variety of IT systems and applications (Microsoft Office)
- Commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi principles
- Able to legally drive in New Zealand and have own vehicle
Due to the nature of the work, Deaf Aotearoa requires staff to be vaccinated.
This is a full time, permanent position located in either our Avondale or South Auckland office.
