Influenza vaccine information 2021

The Flu is a virus. It can make some people very sick. Each year, lots of people go to their doctors and pharmacists to get the flu vaccine. This is an injection that can protect you from catching or spreading flu and you can’t get the flu from the injection.

Flu vaccinations are free for people who are most likely to get very sick. These include:

  • Pregnant women;
  • People who are 65 years or older;
  • People who have a long-term medical condition like diabetes, asthma or a heart condition
  • Children who are 4 years old or younger who have been in hospital for measles, asthma or other breathing problems.

This year, you can get the flu vaccine from 14 April if you are aged over 65, and from 17 May if you are aged under 65. Talk to your health provider to find out if the flu vaccine is right for you. Your health provider can also tell you if you need to get the flu vaccine first or the COVID-19 vaccine.

To stop the spread of the flu:

  • Wash your hands often;
  • Stay home if you are sick;
  • Talk to your doctor or health provider to see if the flu vaccination is right for you.

People with the flu may:
