Much-loved life-long advocate Ron Dick passed away peacefully in Dunedin on the evening of June 3rd.
Ron was a Life Member of the Otago Deaf Society, and worked tirelessly for Otago Deaf Support Services where he was on the committee for 27 years and was the treasurer for 17 years. During NZSL Week 2013 Ron was presented with a Longstanding Service Award from Deaf Aotearoa.
Ron passionately advocated for captions on TV and wrote many letters and faxes to TVNZ and to Able with polite and thoughtful requests for new programmes to be captioned. Ron was a caring, respectful gentleman and was respected by all who knew him.
We are all saddened by Ron’s passing and our thoughts go out to his daughter Caroline and her family.
Ron’s funeral will be held on Monday 8th June at 12.30pm in Hope & Sons, 523 Andersons Bay Road, South Dunedin https://hopeandsons.co.nz/
