Message to the Deaf community and our stakeholders from Deaf Aotearoa

We are preparing for Covid-19 Alert Level 2 and we want to let you know what this means for you.

We are focussed on ensuring the health, safety and overall wellbeing of our staff and the Deaf community is prioritised.

To ensure we play our part of the “team of 5 Million NZ’ers” we will continue to follow the government’s rules and guidelines and will continue to use alternative ways of working if possible – such as using video-conferencing instead of meeting with people in person.

As we move into Alert Level 2, Deaf Aotearoa’s offices will remain closed until at least Monday 18th May and we will continue to engage with the Deaf community and other stakeholders virtually. From Monday 18th May, if there is an urgent need, we can arrange a face-to-face meeting, keeping in mind the need to ensure safe physical distancing and good cleaning and hygiene practices.

If you wish to visit our offices please contact your local staff before you visit so that we can discuss your situation.

We will be implementing contact tracing measures to record who our staff come into contact with while they are at work. If you visit our offices or meet with our staff they will need to ask you some questions to assist us with contact tracing.

Over the past 7 weeks we have had a number of Deaf people contact us for the first time ever and we have engaged with hundreds of people in ways that we haven’t previously used such as via our Covid Skype Hotline, Zoom and Glide. We look forward to continuing to work closely with the Deaf community and other stakeholders as we continue to deal with the Covid-19 situation.

We will keep you informed as this situation evolves over the coming days, weeks and months. When the government changes the rules and guidelines for Alert Level 2 or moves to Alert Level 1 we will change the way that we operate accordingly.

All our staff are available via their usual contact details, or you can contact us via the details below.
