Strategy Plan
[34.07 MB]
The Human Rights Commission is supporting a group of Deaf community stakeholders in early discussions on how to make sure NZSL is promoted and maintained.
In the past, Deaf community groups and people have identified lots of problems and lots of things that need to happen to make sure our language can grow stronger. You have talked about NZSL things that are important to you many times, for example, at submissions on the NZSL Bill, DANZ Community Goals meetings, meetings with research people and government people, at local community meetings, etc. Some of the same things are coming up again and again.
An idea is to develop a NZSL Strategy that can include the most important things that need to happen for NZSL in the next 5 or so years. Because we can't make everything happen at the same time, the strategy will look at the most important things for the Deaf community for the short-term. Then 5 years in the future we can look back and see what has been achieved and think about the next priorities for the next 5 years are.
First, we need to hear from Deaf community groups and people about what are the most important things that need to happen for NZSL. You are asked to think of 3 things that you think should be done first. There are two questions below. Also attached is an early draft of a NZSL Strategy. We would love to hear your comments on this.
Please share this information and questions with your group and in your networks. Please check your local newsletter on how to provide feedback.
If you want to provide feedback another way, you can email Victoria Manning at VictoriaM@hrc.co.nz
Please email any responses or comments by 12 February 2010
